There is nothing quite like the feeling of driving away after dropping your daughter off at the University of South Florida. Watching her step into this huge new chapter brings a mix of overwhelming pride, a few quiet tears, and an incredible sense of excitement for everything ahead.

Once the dorm room is set up, the final tight hugs are given, and you’ve officially said your "see you laters," take a deep breath. Going to school in the Tampa Bay area means campus life comes paired with world-class beaches, incredible food, and endless sunshine.

Whether you are unwinding right after move-in or planning your next visit, here is a sweet itinerary to toast to her new journey and experience the best of Tampa and Clearwater.

1. City Vibes & Riverfront Bites in Tampa

Spend a quiet afternoon taking in Tampa’s vibrant urban energy along the water to process the big day.

  • Stroll the Tampa Riverwalk: Start with a peaceful walk along the Hillsborough River. The winding path links beautiful waterfront parks and offers serene views of the downtown skyline.

  • Lunch at Armature Works: Housed in a beautifully restored historic streetcar warehouse, this bustling food hall offers everything from wood-fired pizza to fresh sushi. Grab lunch and sit outside on the lawn to watch the boats pass by.

  • Explore History in Ybor City: Take a short ride over to Tampa’s historic Latin Quarter. Walk the brick streets, admire the iron-work balconies, grab a rich Cuban coffee, and soak in the historic charm.

2. Sugar-White Sands & Coastal Chill in Clearwater

No visit to the bay area is complete without crossing the causeway to Clearwater legendary coastline for some well-deserved relaxation.

  • Unwind on Clearwater Beach: Sink your feet into the soft sugar sand and soak up the Gulf views. It's the ultimate place to decompress, reflect, and enjoy a slow-paced afternoon by the water.

  • Bite into a Fresh Grouper Sandwich: Head over to Frenchy’s Rockaway Grill for a quintessential beachfront lunch right on the sand. Their famous grouper sandwich paired with a cold drink and live music is an absolute local rite of passage.

  • Catch the Sunset at Pier 60: End your day at Pier 60 as the sun drops over the Gulf horizon. The daily sunset celebration features local artisans and street performers, offering a memorable, peaceful send-off.

College is all about starting new adventures for both me and my daughter. As she begins her journey as a Bull, I get to explore a gorgeous tropical playground every time I come visit!
